Tired, exhausted, relieved.
I have just returned from the gym, for the first time in quite some time. I was able to squeeze in 55 minutes on the Elliptical Machine. My original intention was to start slow with 30 minutes of a moderate pace, the “fat burn” setting. However, 15 minutes in I was feeling good so I changed the setting to 45 minutes on the “Random” setting. I hit 40 minutes and decided “what the hell,” so I extended it an extra 5 minutes. At that point I definitely needed the cool down.
816 calories burned.
Is that right? Am I really in that bad of shape? I am.
I noticed my heart rate started creeping into the high 160′s, so I slowed the pace down until it dropped to 150. I went through this cycle a few times and actually felt good that my heart rate was able to drop within a few minutes. I’m obviously no fitness genius here, but I do know it’s a good thing when your heart rate can drop to normal rather quickly.
What did I eat today?
8:00 am: 1 cup cooked oatmeal + 4 strawberries, 2 cups black coffee
11:00 am: 5 strawberries (the leftovers from breakfast), 1 cup black coffee
1:00 pm: Sandwich (sliced turkey, american cheese, miracle whip on whole wheat bread)
4:00 pm: Blue Diamond almonds, Smoked flavor. 23 total
[6:00 pm workout]
7:45 pm: 2 Turkey Rolls (sliced turkey rolled around 1 piece of american cheese), 1/2 cup cottage cheese
I’m not even going to bother checking the calories on that, I don’t think I ate enough. If I had to guess it would be around 1200 calories. I’m full though. I guess that’s all that matters. I must have drank a gallon of water today as well. That’s good.
How do you think I did on my first day back in the gym? What would you do different? I am very open to advice right now. Drop your knowledge in the comments section below.

From the BB forums.
Thanks Jesse. I will be sure to do that.
Mikey, definitely not enough calories on this day. Your body is going to go into starvation mode. But you know that.
Still… good job. Stay motivated.
